Human centered AI
I developed practical Human-Centred AI guidelines for the City of Amsterdam. The goal was to help designers and civil servants translate responsible AI principles into everyday decisions.
Human-Centred AI Guidelines
During my internship in the AI Lab, I realised that AI is becoming increasingly relevant to UX design. At first, I found it difficult to position myself because I did not yet fully understand what AI involves or what role a designer can play within it. To develop my knowledge, I researched Human-Centred AI. I combined desk research with conversations with colleagues to explore the opportunities and risks AI creates for users and what these mean for design decisions. I also studied examples of responsible and irresponsible AI use within organisations and examined the City of Amsterdam's AI vision.
Based on these insights and my own values, I developed practical guidelines for using AI responsibly in our work. On 13 January 2026, I presented the guidelines and supporting examples to the AI Lab team, including Swaan Dekkers, Innovation Lead AI at the City of Amsterdam. I recommended turning the guidelines into a practical resource, such as a card set or an online platform for civil servants and designers. This would ensure that they are not only documented as a vision, but also provide clear and accessible tools that people can apply in their daily work.
Other work within the AI Lab
Within the AI Lab, I contributed to several projects exploring how AI could be used responsibly within the City of Amsterdam. My main project focused on the potential use of AI-assisted transcription for the Work, Participation and Income department. Due to the sensitive nature of the information, this work cannot be published online. I also contributed to AI Futures, an exploratory project in which we developed and tested two prototypes to investigate the opportunities and limitations of AI. I conducted user tests, analysed the findings and helped translate them into the final report. I was also responsible for the report's visual design and photography. The project was later presented internally and shared with visitors at World Summit AI.
